Wow! Is it really over a year

I'm clearly not the world's most verbose blogger since it is over a year since I visited this page.

Since that time I have settled into my new role as Technical Specialist, got promoted to team manager and generally came to terms with my place in the world.

Last December after badgering my wife for another motorbike we settled on reliving our youth and we now share an S2000. We used to have roadsters when we were young so now we have a joint mid-life-crisis roadster that we share. The best thing of all is that our son gets to go in the passenger seat so we rarely go out together. Still he believes that he has the coolest parents at his school... good enough for me as I race towards being 50.

Time for new toys

Things have calmed down and I've settled in to my new role at Avon. Over all life is good, especially at home.

We've change my car, caravan and stated some home improvements. I like the simple things in life.... I even purchased a budget Android tablet for a bit of fun at minimum expense. Hopefully it'll be worthwhile experiment.

Things are starting to pick up as I'm being called for interviews so maybe it's not all doom & gloom.

In the meantime, I have been humbled by the support from my friends and colleagues. Thank you to everyone for emailing job referrals and leads, etc. This has really helped to keep me optimistic that there is stuff "out there" for me.

So almost a month has gone by since I visited my blog page. I hope to increase my contributions as time goes on.

Since my last visit I have actively started looking for work. This is a strange experience for someone about to turn 47 and who has been in a company for over 13 years... suddenly I feel very old & overlooked.

I'm sure that these are normal thoughts for anyone experiencing redundancy and I keep telling myself that it is meaningless self pitying but it is still a strange state of mind. Perhaps there is an avenue for a "bloke" self support group where members tell each other to "get over it" and "get on with it"....

Hi, welcome to my blog.

As will become apparent I'm new to this but you have to start somewhere.

I'm going through an upheaval at the moment having just been made redundant from Avon Cosmetics after 13 years. This could be a chance for a new direction and so I thought that this would be a good place to express myself. I hope that I say something useful.
